A Ten-Minute Morning Practice

Breath, movement and stillness — a simple sequence to begin the day with intention.

You do not need an hour, or a special room, to begin the day calmly. Ten minutes and a quiet corner are enough to set a different tone.

The sequence

  1. Two minutes of breath. Sit comfortably. Breathe in through the nose, and let each exhale be a little longer than the inhale.
  2. Four minutes of movement. Gentle neck rolls, a few cat–cow stretches, and a forward fold with soft knees.
  3. Three minutes of stillness. Return to sitting. Let your attention rest on the breath, and come back each time it wanders.
  4. One minute of intention. Ask yourself one question: how do I want to meet today?

If you have a medical condition, are pregnant, or feel pain during any movement, stop and seek advice from a qualified professional.
